After testing Oceanside Pier area water quality, the water contact closure has been lifted for the Oceanside Pier area. The beach and Strand from Surfrider to Tyson Street is reopen, with the exception of a 500-yard zone directly around the Pier. For safety, vessels, surfers and swimmers are asked to avoid recreating in this zone. An evaluation on shrinking this 500-yard safety zone will be made Monday morning.

The Oceanside Pier fire, which broke out at the west end of the Pier on Wednesday, April 25 resulted in the loss of two structures and damaged the end of the Pier. 90 percent of the Pier was saved through the dedicated efforts of the Oceanside Fire Department and many other regional partners.

A final determination on the Pier fire’s cause has not yet been made.

A final media update will be given on Monday, April 29, 2024, on the Strand behind the amphitheater bandshell at 3:00 p.m.
