SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos men’s golf team competes in the UC San Diego’s SoCal Intercollegiate early in the week and the Cougar baseball team hosts No. 20 Cal State Monterey Bay at the end of the week. This weekend, the Cougar softball squad returns to Turlock to face Stanislaus State while the CSUSM men’s and women’s track & field teams split its squad to compete in Los Angeles and San Diego.

CAL STATE MONTEREY BAY •CSUSM is 1-5 all-time against the Otters.
•Last season, the Cougars prevented a series sweep with a 7-1 victory in the series finale at CSUMB.
•Seniors Hayden Duer and Jacob Tonascia rank first and second in the CCAA with nine and eight home runs, respectively.
•As a team, the Otters rank second in the CCAA in batting (.303 avg.) and eighth in pitching (4.91 ERA).

CSUSM BREAKDOWN •The Cougars won one of their four games at Cal State East Bay last weekend. CSUSM dropped a heartbreaker to the Pioneers on Friday by a score of 3-2. The Cougars split Saturday’s doubleheader, suffering a 5-0 loss in the opener before rebounding with a 4-1 victory in the nightcap. CSUSM fell 14-5 in the series finale to CSUEB on Sunday.
•Junior Marcus Wilhite ranks second in the CCAA in doubles (10) and eighth in RBIs (20).
•As a team, CSUSM ranks sixth in batting (.279) and tenth in pitching (5.55 ERA) in the CCAA.

STANISLAUS STATE •CSUSM is 4-7 all-time against the Warriors.
•The Cougars prevented a series sweep last year against Stan State, winning the series finale 5-2 after dropping the first three games 11-0, 5-2 and 5-3.
•The Warriors went 3-1 in their own Tournament of Champions last weekend, falling 4-3 to Western Oregon before registering wins over Montana State-Billings (5-4), Concordia-Irvine (4-3) and Concordia-Portland (3-1).
•Stan State was selected to finish eighth in the 2018 CCAA softball preseason coaches’ poll.

CSUSM BREAKDOWN •The Cougars went 3-3 in their first appearance in the Stanislaus State’s Tournament of Champions last weekend. CSUSM registered wins over Saint Martin’s (6-5), Holy Names (6-5) and Chaminade (4-3).
•Sophomore Karen Roman, who played third base and pitched last weekend, was named to the Tournament of Champions All-Tournament Team. She batted .538 (7-for-13) with six RBIs and one run in her five games as a position player. In the circle, she tallied three strikeouts in her 7.1 innings.
•In the 2018 CCAA softball preseason poll, the Cougars were picked to finish 10th.

•Natalie Rodriguez – Topped her CSUSM 1500 meter record by more than six seconds (4:25.36)

MOVING ON UP, IN THE CSUSM RECORD BOOKS •Patrick Hastings – Broke into the top 10 in both the Discus (No. 7, 40.90m) and Shot Put (No. 5, 12.93m)
•Ndoto Strong – Remains No. 1 in Shot Put but broke his own record with a throw of 16.75 meters.
