Oceanside Museum of Art is set to unveil My Intimate Partner, a compelling multi-media exhibition that examines the complex intersection of intimacy, power, and control that often underlies intimate partner violence (IPV). The exhibition aims to expand the perception of IPV beyond a women’s issue, positioning it within a broader social context that influences such violence, while also exploring visitors’ relationships to power and control. Curated and designed by Smadar Samson, this powerful showcase will be on display at OMA from October 5, 2024, through March 16, 2025, opening during National Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

“The premise of examining this complex subject in the format of an art exhibition is that our entire community—people affected directly or indirectly by intimate partner violence —may find it acceptable to walk into an art venue and interact with media that seeks to illuminate experiences in ways that may cause us to question what we think we know about IPV,” reflects curator Smadar Samson.
“The artists selected for the exhibition unveil layers of insight that could be best attained through the power of the creative experience.”
Through a diverse range of artistic mediums presented by 12 artists and artist groups, My Intimate Partner serves as a call to action to end IPV. The participating artists bring layers of insight and emotional depth that only the creative experience can provide, offering a powerful lens through which to understand and confront IPV. My Intimate Partner features a powerful dance film by The Roisin Box Project Dance Studio, stop-motion animation by Hugo Crosthwaite, and 2- and 3-D works by Carlos Castro Arias, Mely Barragan, Patrick N. Brown, Lisa Bryson, Fatima Jamil Franks, Trinh Mai, Marco Miranda, Tatiana Oritz-Rubio, Irma Sofia Poeter, and Valya.

Additionally, My Intimate Partner is proud to be part of the Official Calendar of WORLD DESIGN CAPITAL SAN DIEGO TIJUANA 2024.
