With the end of summer in sight, Oceanside Museum of Art (OMA) will host its fifth and final event in this year’s summer block party series, Street Level! Set to take place on Friday, September 20th from 6:00 PM to 8:30 PM, Street Level Vol 2.5 brings together the community for an evening inspired by Oceanside’s muse – the Pacific Ocean – paying homage to OMA’s current PST Art exhibition Transformative Currents: Art and Action in the Pacific Ocean.

To complement the theme, the evening will highlight two Oceanside-born and raised musical acts, Lea Love and We the Commas. Singer-songwriter Lea Love’s multi-layered artistry draws from her rich Hawaiian, Japanese, and Samoan heritage, while brother trio We the Commas blend their unique experience and perspective as “beach boy surfers” with a personal mission to break down racial and social constructs. Transformative Currents curator Cassandra Coblentz and Assistant Curator Aaron Katzeman will lead interactive exhibition talks and tours, and guests can sample Hawaiian favorites from local favorite Ohana Street Bites.

Transformative Currents: Art and Action in the Pacific Ocean is one of the first Getty PST ART: Art & Science Collide exhibitions to open in San Diego, joining more than 70 exhibitions across the region exploring the intersections of art and science, both past and present. Transformative Currents brings together 21 international artists to explore critical ecological issues affecting the Pacific Ocean through diverse media including video, sculpture, and photography.
