My name is Karen Wilcox and I am running for the open Vista Irrigation District Board of Directors Division 2 seat. I know it is difficult to get information on local Special District elections so I want to let you, the voter, know my priorities if I am elected to the VID Board.

My background includes over twenty years working in the finance industry. Recently, I made a decision to leave the industry to help my daughter grow her salon business. This change allows me the flexibility to serve my community by representing the residents and businesses in Division 2 of the Vista Irrigation District.

First and foremost, water is an essential part of our lives and it is important to make sure that Vista Irrigation District meets all current and future water quality standards and continues to provide a safe and reliable water supply to its consumers. Water safety will be my number one priority.

I will advocate for a statewide or county run low income assistance program for residential customers of public agencies, like VID. Our seniors on a fixed income and lower income citizens deserve access to clean safe water that they can afford. I have experience in this arena. At my former employer, I administered federal programs to assist customers adversely affected by the COVID pandemic, enabling them to keep their homes. That is something I am really proud of.

The Vista Irrigation District is about to embark on a major infrastructure renewal project. Spending millions of rate-payer dollars. These years-long projects require strong leadership, sound decision making, and strong financial oversight. I have decades of experience of doing just that in the financial industry, being subject to similar government regulations to that of a public water agency. I know what it takes to get things done in that environment.

In summary, it takes strong leadership and sound decision making to execute the priorities I have listed. I will be that voice in advocating for the residents and businesses in Vista Irrigation District Division 2. For more information about me, please visit my website at www.karen4vid.com.
