I am thrilled to officially announce my candidacy for California State Senate District 40. Since announcing my candidacy, I have received an outpouring of support from local leaders, community organizations, and individuals.

Now serving my second term on the San Marcos City Council, San Marcos is proof that when we work together and prioritize strong, guiding principles – safety, opportunity, and balance – we can achieve incredible things. I am eager to take that same approach to the State Senate and fight for a brighter future for all Californians.

I have been lucky to be a part of building a successful city where public safety is prioritized, infrastructure is updated, and we offer exceptional recreational and educational opportunities. With the implementation of balanced policies, San Marcos has transformed into the “Jewel of North County” – a city where education thrives, businesses grow, and families feel safe and supported. With top-ranked schools, a booming local economy, and sustainable development that connects neighborhoods to green spaces, we have built a city that balances its small-town charm with innovation and opportunity.

As a San Diego native, I have seen our County change as local control decreases, policies shift, and funding is rerouted. The balanced approach that made San Diego affordable, safe, and desirable in decades past has been lost. Our families can no longer afford to live here, safety has been compromised, homelessness has increased, and essential projects such as infrastructure updates have been neglected. It’s time to demand change.

My plan for the future includes:

Good Governance: Empowering local leaders by supporting local control and investing state resources in supporting the needs of individual communities.

Affordability & Rising Costs: The cost of living in California is out of control, with one in five Californians living in poverty. Soaring inflation, out-of-reach housing, and skyrocketing gas prices are only making things worse. I will fight to lower the cost of living for everyday Californians by lowering taxes and fees, reducing unnecessary regulations on small businesses, and ensuring that every Californian can attain a home that is affordable.

Supporting Public Safety: I believe nothing is more important than keeping our communities safe. Yet, violent crime is soaring across our state and in San Diego. We need to reverse Sacramento’s out-of-control policies that prioritize criminals over victims. We need to focus on stopping crime before it starts, by investing in proven and effective prevention and intervention like after-school programs.

Roads & Traffic: Our state continues to reroute critical highway funding to transit projects, leaving our roadways in disrepair. Areas like Miramar and CA-67 are dangerous to vehicles and drivers. It’s time we spent state funding on updating these routes so we can keep our community moving in the right direction.

Cleaning Up Our Streets: Homelessness is a public health crisis and a public safety issue. I will help lead the state’s efforts to get these people off our streets, sidewalks, parks, and overpasses by working on a new law to prohibit homeless encampments near schools, parks, libraries, and day-care centers, while delivering them the services they need.

Education: California’s public schools are ranked nearly last among our 50 states. I want to reform our broken education system to give teachers the resources to lift kids out of a failed experiment, dramatically improve their education and afterschool programs, and to give them a shot at long-term educational success.

The challenges facing California demand the same forward-thinking leadership that has made San Marcos a model of success. Together, we can bring that same success to Sacramento.
