The City of Carlsbad is seeking residents interested in filling a vacancy on the County of San Diego’s Palomar Airport Advisory Committee for a term ending January 2027. Applications for this volunteer position are available on the city’s website and in the City Clerk’s Office, 1200 Carlsbad Village Drive. Applications must be submitted by 5 p.m. on June 26, 2023.

The Palomar Airport Advisory Committee provides input on planning and operations for the San Diego County McClellan-Palomar Airport to the San Diego County Board of Supervisors and the County Chief Administrative Officer. Duties are as follows:

Review and make recommendations on issues pertaining to noise control at Palomar Airport.
Review and make recommendations regarding land use within the airport influence area.
Review and make recommendations regarding issues pertaining to the development and operations of Palomar Airport.
Provide an open forum between the communities and the county on matters pertaining to Palomar Airport.
Any other items as may be assigned to the committee by the County Board of Supervisors.
The Palomar Airport Advisory Committee has nine members, one of which represents the City of Carlsbad. The Carlsbad City Council will nominate a candidate for the District 5 Supervisor to consider. The nomination requires a majority vote of the City Council. Appointment of the city’s preferred candidate will then require the approval of the San Diego County Board of Supervisors. The current vacancy will fulfill the term from present to January 2027.

The Palomar Airport Advisory Committee typically meets at 7 p.m. on the third Thursday of every odd month at the City of San Marcos Council Chamber, 1 Civic Center Drive.

The City Council will review applications and select a preferred candidate at its July 11 meeting. Applicants are invited (but not required) to attend the meeting to provide their qualifications and answer questions asked by members of the City Council.
