CARLSBAD, Calif.– On Sep. 13, 2025, at approximately 4:34 a.m., the City of Carlsbad Police Department responded to the 4400 block of Carlsbad Blvd. to investigate a traffic collision involving a vehicle and a bicyclist.
Upon arrival, officers located a bicyclist in the roadway who had succumbed to injuries sustained during the collision. With the assistance of several community members, Carlsbad’s license plate readers (LPRs), and a drone, officers located the driver of the involved vehicle approximately one mile from the scene of the collision.
The driver was identified as 27-year-old Alexander Gendron of Escondido. Gendron was arrested for leaving the scene of a collision resulting in injury or death, DUI causing injury or death and vehicular manslaughter. Gendron will be booked into the Vista Detention Facility.
The identity of the deceased will be released by the San Diego Medical Examiner’s Office at a later date. The cause of the collision remains under investigation, and alcohol is suspected to be a contributing factor. Currently, northbound Carlsbad Blvd. between Tamarack Ave. and Cannon Rd. remains closed for the investigation.
