NC Food Bank Golf Classic Sponsored by Tri-City Medical Center

0

On Monday, July 24th, the 1st Annual North County Food Bank Golf Classic was held. The Title Sponsor and Host for the tournament and event was the Tri-City Medical Center.

We spoke with President & CEO James Floros of the San Diego Food Bank and he said he was excited about the tournament. He explained that, “The San Diego Food Bank celebrated its 40th Anniversary. It is a countywide organization and about 2 years ago we acquired the North County Food Banks because we were looking for a North County hub to expand our services. We accomplished that and we now have a facility in San Marcos, and last October we launched our ‘North County Hunger Initiative’ to raise money for the expansion of services. Our goal was $350,000 and we are at $300,000 right now. The proceeds of the tournament and the Silent Auction, will be going to that Initiative. Since we launched the Initiative, we have more than doubled the amount of pounds we have distributed in North County. We have gone from about 150,000 pounds of food to over a million pounds that was distributed just in the last eight months. We are excited that the North County community has embraced us”.

The tournament took place at the Shadowridge Golf Club, located in the rural foothills of North County. A golf experience at Shadowridge means the opportunity to golf on one of the most critically acclaimed championship courses in San Diego County. Designed by David Rainville and opened in 1981, the course is located at 1980 Gateway Drive, Vista, CA 92081.

Oceanside Medical Marijuana Ad-Hoc Committee Will Explore Banking and Finance Options

0

On Thursday, July 27, the Medical Marijuana Ad-hoc Committee for the City of Oceanside will explore the available and new options for medical marijuana businesses regarding their banking and financial transactions. Currently, the federal prohibitions on marijuana prevent banks and credit unions from establishing accounts with marijuana-related businesses.
With the worth of the marijuana industry projected to be between $4 and $7 billion dollars annually, the State Treasurer’s Office has held a number of meetings of its Cannabis Banking Working Group to develop a solution to the growing problem of handling the revenues generated. The ad-hoc committee will look at solutions which are needed and manageable on a local level.
The hearing will be held from 3pm to 5pm at City Hall in the City Council Chambers. Public attendance is encouraged. For the full calendar of committee hearings, please visit the City of Oceanside’s website at the link below.
The Medical Marijuana Ad-hoc Committee was created by the City Council on April 19 to specifically address the possibility of new medical marijuana regulations for the City of Oceanside. All work will be completed within six months per City regulations regarding ad-hoc committees and the committee’s report will be presented to the City Council for review and possible action in November, 2017. For more information, you can access the committee’s webpage at http://www.ci.oceanside.ca.us/services/comms/mmac.asp or email the committee at mmadhoc@ci.oceanside.ca.us.

Sheriff Deputies Shut Down Illegal Marijuana Dispensary

0

City of Vista authorities shut down a marijuana dispensary that was allegedly being operated illegally in Vista. Sheriffs’ COPPS enforcement deputies served a search warrant Wednesday morning, July 19, at “$18 Shatter”, 986 Vista Village Drive, according to Vista Sheriff case agent Deputy Jack Reed.

During the raid, Vista Sheriffs’ personnel seized over 15 pounds of processed marijuana, more than 16 pounds of marijuana concentrates, over 4 pounds of pre-rolled marijuana joints, cannabis-infused edible products, over $3,500 in cash and narcotics paraphernalia, including pipes, vape cartridges and pens, pipes, scales and bongs, reported Deputy Reed.

One employee was arrested and cited for violating Vista’s ban on illegal marijuana dispensaries and maintaining a criminal public nuisance. The suspect’s name was not released.

The Vista Fire Department was called on scene due to an immediate fire hazard inside the premises, and further entry was prohibited.

The shutdown was the result of numerous complaints from concerned residents regarding the illegal dispensary, which was located directly across from Vista Magnet Middle School and the City of Vista’s Wildwood Park.

The Sheriff’s Department and the Vista City Attorney’s Office have shut down 15 illegal marijuana businesses in the past twelve months, for a total of 39 illegal shops shuttered since the beginning of 2014.

Hold on to Your Wallet

Hold on to Your Wallet
By Assemblymember Marie Waldron
As your Assemblywoman, I oppose tax increases, which is why I voted against extending
cap-and- trade, a huge regressive tax on the working men and women of this state.
Though cap-and- trade fees generate billions for California’s general fund, there is little
evidence of any positive environmental impact. Under the program, caps are placed on
greenhouse gas emissions by industries, such as oil refineries and energy producers,
which pay fees on emissions that exceed those caps. Though the intent is to create
incentives for industry to invest in new and cleaner technologies, the fees are usually
passed through, largely removing the incentives by forcing consumers to pay the
additional costs.

Assemblymember Marie Waldron, AD 75

Like the recent gas tax increase and extensive changes to the Board of Equalization, last
week’s cap-and- trade vote to extend the program’s expiration date from 2020 to 2030
was rushed through with little debate or input from those most affected, including
California’s small businesses.
Large enterprises can increase their products’ costs to cover the fees, but smaller
companies aren’t able to cope as easily. For example, cap-and- trade fees may eventually
increase gasoline prices as much as 90 cents per gallon, literally driving up the cost of
everything, including shipping costs and fuel surcharges on the goods we purchase.
These costs will be added to the 12 – 20 cent per gallon gas/diesel tax going into effect
this November. On the other hand, smaller businesses will see out-of- state and foreign
competitors that don’t have to worry about cap-and- trade undercut their prices, forcing
them into bankruptcy or out of California.
Regrettably, California’s small businesses and its hard working taxpayers, many with the
least ability to pay, will be saddled with years of massive tax increases as a result of last
week’s cap-and- trade vote.

Assemblymember Marie Waldron, R-Escondido, represents the 75 th Assembly District in the
California Legislature, which includes the communities of Bonsall, Escondido, Fallbrook,
Hidden Meadows, Pala, Palomar Mountain, Pauma Valley, Rainbow, San Marcos, Temecula, Valley Center and Vista.

National country music recording artist and TV show host of Operation American Dream, Amy Scruggs (featuring Ryan Scruggs), along with National Rock and blues recording artist Dave Adams from Moro Bay reunite together for one night only. This event will benefit “Dentist For Veterans” nonprofit organization. Dave and Amy toured together from 2009-2011 and have performed at hundreds of veteran and military events over the past 7 years together and individually.

Dentist for Veterans, founded by Dr. Charles Zahedi D.D.S, was inspired out of an incredible need for our veterans to have dental care.

Most soldiers do not know who to call and many of them are not covered under the VA benefits for the extensive work that they need.

Scruggs and Adams have come together for this great night of music with the support of Indian Joe Brewery in Vista California, Synergy One Lending, north San Diego county Real Estate Broker Bill Ims, Oakwood Escrow and Ignite Now Media. Northern California sponsors are Interbank Mortgage and Dave Clark and Troy Bambino with Dave Clark Realty from Campbell California.

Indian Joe Brewery will be donating $1.00 per pint during the event to Dentist for Veterans.

Vista Fire Receives Mission: Lifeline EMS Recognition

0

The Vista Fire Department has received the American Heart Association’s Mission: Lifeline®EMS Bronze Award for applying quality improvement measures for the treatment of patients who experience severe heart attacks.

The Mission: Lifeline® program was created by the American Heart Association to help ensure prompt, evidence-based care for heart attack patients — all the way from the 9-1-1 call… to the ambulance… to the ER… to the treatment for restoring blood flow through the heart. The program’s goal is to save lives by closing the gaps that separate patients from timely access to appropriate treatments. The Mission: Lifeline’s EMS recognition program recognizes emergency medical services for their efforts in improving systems of care and improving the quality of life for these patients.

“We are pleased to be recognized for our dedication and achievements in emergency medical care for all cardiac patients,” said Vista Deputy Chief Ned Vander Pol. “ Our firefighter/paramedics play a vital role in the care for those who experience severe heart attacks and this program helps us in the treatment of these patients.”

Every year, more than 250,000 people experience an ST elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI), the deadliest type of heart attack caused by a blockage of blood flow to the heart, that requires timely treatment. To prevent death, it’s critical to restore blood flow as quickly as possible, either by mechanically opening the blocked vessel or by providing clot-busting medication. Unfortunately, a significant number of STEMI patients don’t receive this prompt reperfusion therapy, which is critical in restoring blood flow.

The American Heart Association’s Mission: Lifeline® program helps hospitals and emergency medical services develop systems of care that follows proven standards and procedures for acute coronary syndrome patients. Following protocols derived from American Heart Association/American College of Cardiology guidelines, these trainings and practices allow EMS providers to rapidly identify suspected heart attack patients, promptly notify the medical center, and trigger an early response from the awaiting hospital personnel.

The Vista Fire Department serves the residents of the City of Vista and the Vista Fire Protection District. The Fire Department is a full service department, providing services ranging from fire prevention and suppression, to emergency medical services, to technical rescue and hazardous materials mitigation.
