SAN MARCOS, CA – With after school programs and schools nationwide forced to halt in-person meetings during the coronavirus outbreak, Boys & Girls Clubof San Marcos (BGCSM) is finding new and innovative ways to stay engaged with kids and teens. The nonprofit organization launched Virtual Clubhouse, a free online resource for families and youth to utilize during their time at home. Each day, the Club will post a series of videos with activities on their social media platforms and website at www.boysgirlsclubsm.org.

“Since our members can’t physically be in our building, our goal for Virtual Clubhouse is to ensure that our families and kids continue to feel supportedas they adjust to this new, temporary normal,” said Jonathan Kerstetter, Director of Operations. “These programs will offer a new way for kids to connect with Club staff and other members they are used to seeing every day.”

The program began Monday, April 13, in conjunction with the launch of San Marcos Unified School District’s Distance Learning Plan. Each day’s virtual program lineup will be available at 1:00 p.m. for any student, regardless of membership, to participate in after completing their schoolwork for the day.

In order to impact youth who may not have access to a computer or internet, the organization also offers a free printed worksheet of activities that parentscan do with their children each day of the week. Worksheets are available at the Club’s main branch and distributed during the free supper program on Monday-Friday from 2:00 p.m-4:00 p.m.
