Buena Vista Park Revised Designs

A public meeting was held on Thursday, Sept. 20 to share the revised designs for a new park in North Carlsbad. Comments can be provided to Kyle Lancaster through Sept. 30 at kyle.lancaster@carlsbadca.gov or 760-434-2941.

Background
The 3 acre city-owned property is currently home to a long-abandoned water reservoir and had been previously slated for up to 14 new houses. Neighbors asked the city to consider a park instead. The city was able to make this change in use by incorporating the construction of a park into a set of agreements having to do with lawsuits over the city’s general plan, climate action plan and a proposed development off Poinsettia Lane.

Under the terms of the agreements, the park may include gathering spaces, picnic tables, shade structures, landscaping and a playground. As a “passive use” park, it will not include amenities such as athletic fields, tennis courts, a dog park or a skateboarding park. Restrooms will also not to be part of the park’s design.

Park Timeline & Budget
The park is scheduled for completion in about two and a half years. Lennar Homes will pay approximately $3 million towards the park project.
