Career Technical Education (CTE) Day at Film Hub

February 22, 2024, Vista, CA – On Thursday, February 29th, Vista Unified School District’s Career Technical Education (CTE) department will host a student showcase at The Film Hub event space in the downtown Vista Village from 6 – 8 pm.

Students and staff from three of the district’s high schools will be on hand with an array of stations that showcase the advanced work students have done in career pathways including welding, construction, culinary arts, medical technology, TV/film production, automotive technology, and more.

“This event is an amazing way to see the breadth and depth of our CTE students’ work and expertise across a wide spectrum of skilled career-path classes,” says Robert Crowell, Career Pathways Coordinator for Vista Unified. “It’s a celebration of the expertise of our staff being transferred to our students to empower them for success.”

The showcase will have more than a dozen interactive stations for attendees, including virtual welding machines that beginning welding students use, blood pressure checks from a medical technology class, a portable news desk from TV/film students, and much more.

CTE classes are designed to create career pathways for students in high-demand employment fields, providing technical and soft-skill training to help students stand out. Local business leaders are expected to attend, several of whom have hired or provided internship opportunities for Vista USD students.

The event will serve as a bookend to National CTE Month, as the district celebrated with the February 6th ribbon-cutting of a new 9,000 square-foot CTE building at Rancho Buena Vista High School that serves as the home for the school’s popular welding and construction classes.
