CARLSBAD, Calif. – Over the past six months, the Carlsbad Police Department has shut down four massage spa businesses found to be engaged in prostitution through illicit massage services. The businesses include:
• Ocean Mist Massage – 2900 block of Carlsbad Boulevard
• Happy Shiatsu Spa – 3000 block of Jefferson Street
• Imperial Massage Spa – 800 block of Grand Avenue
• King Spa – 2600 block of Gateway Road
During the investigation, detectives served eight search warrants, resulting in seven arrests and the seizure of $35,477 in U.S. currency.
These investigations were initiated in response to concerns raised by legitimate business owners and community members. The department’s goal in addressing these issues is to deter human trafficking, protect vulnerable individuals, and improve the overall quality of life in the community.
The Carlsbad Police Department worked closely with Code Enforcement and the City Attorney’s Office throughout these investigations. This coordinated approach allowed investigators to identify violations and take appropriate enforcement action to stop illegal activity.
The Carlsbad Police Department reminds the public that community awareness plays a critical role in identifying and preventing these crimes. If you see something suspicious, report it. Combating human trafficking and prostitution requires a collective effort.
If you or someone you know may be a victim of human trafficking, help is available through the National Human Trafficking Resource Center’s 24/7 hotline. Call 1-888-373-7888 or text “BeFree” (233733). If this is an emergency, call 911.
