And while we’re on the topic of sustainability, we’re also hosting a Halloween-themed Fixit Clinic at Dove Library on Saturday, Oct. 21, which happens to be International Repair Day. The Fixit Clinic gives residents an opportunity to learn how to repair household items and extend the life of something that might otherwise be thrown away. These videos show two recent success stories from our last Fixit Clinic.

Whether you could use some help fixing up a bike, upcycling an old light fixture or even mending an old Halloween costume, you can save money and help protect the environment at the same time.

Donate: Donate clothing and shoes to benefit Catholic Charities La Posada.

Swap: Find a Halloween costume (or costume pieces) to take home and donate old costumes.

Create: Use upcycled materials to craft a Halloween mask or headband.

Repair: Keep items out of the landfill and get help fixing small household appliances, electronics, bikes, clothing and more.

Mend: Repair old Halloween costumes to give them new life.

Residents can also drop off household batteries and light bulbs for proper disposal at this event.
