Carlsbad Unified School District will celebrate Red Ribbon Week October 26 –30, 2020. This district wide program was designed to create an awareness concerning the problems related to the use of tobacco, vapes, alcohol and other drugs.
On Tuesday October 20, 2020 students will join the Carlsbad Mayor, City Council and City Manager virtually at City Hall at 3:00 PM to listen to them read the red Ribbon Week Proclamation. A collage of pictures of students accepting the proclamations for our CUSD schools will run in a slide show during this time.
Red Ribbon Week started in 1985 as a means of honoring D.E.A. agent Enrique Camarena who lost his life in the line of duty. Today Red Ribbon Week has grown and is recognized nationally as a time for schools, communities and local businesses across the nation to come together to support our young people in making healthy choices.
In Carlsbad Unified we will focus on the many aspects of health, safety, making healthy choices, being mindful and taking care of our environment. You can take advantage of this time to open dialogue at home and in school to discuss issues like peer pressure, social media, integrity and character as well as making the right choices for a healthy future. We encourage you to virtually support the special activities that each school will offer during this week as well as in your community. Please decorate your driveway or neighborhood, make some chalk art on the ground, paint some rocks with kind words and leave them for someone else to find, take family walks or have family dinners and be sure to send us your photos.
Please support our youth and celebrate Red Ribbon Week with us by wearing Red.
