As a lifelong, self-motivated artist, Carlos Primo has developed a realist style of painting. Hundreds, if not thousands, of photographs taken at the beach become his inspiration when one or a few of them catches his eye. They then become an oil painting like the 24″ X 48″ commissioned piece above. Realistic seascapes that feature waves are the central theme in his paintings.
From the time he was in grade school, Carlos always seemed to be enrolled in an art or design class of some sort, and was always doing something artistic. But, as many artists, he really didn’t pursue his artistry full time until later in life. Then, in 2013 he began painting out of the New Village Arts Foundry Artist Studios at 2787 State Street as one of over a dozen artists activating the studio space. Prior to that, he mostly donated his time, talent, and art to others, including the Buena Vista Elementary School in Carlsbad where he painted a mural in the library and sixteen classroom doors showcasing moments in history, science, and literature in a motivating project called “Doors to Education.” This is just one of many examples of how he shared his artwork with others.
Up until just recently, the Foundry has been closed due to the health pandemic. But, it is now open three days per week on Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 12pm to 4pm. The public is welcome to visit with the artists, learn about their art, and hopefully find something special. Visit Carlos in person at the Foundry Artist Studios or online at www.carlosprimo.com.
