One of Carlsbad’s most popular annual traditions returns to the heart of the coastal town’s downtown “village” on Sunday, December 2, 2017. The Rotary Club of Carlsbad’s 34th annual Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony will take place from 2 to 4:45 p.m. in the south parking lot of the Carlsbad Village Faire shopping center at 300 Carlsbad Village Drive. The afternoon will begin at 2:00 p.m. and include the arrival of Santa in an antique fire engine, followed by Mayor Matt Hall. As the children line up for free visits and photos with Santa, the entertainment starts, including the Renaissance Institute of Music Orchestra, the Carlsbad High School Band, and the Carlsbad High School’s Lancer Dancers and XCalibur dance teams. The event is free and includes crafts for kids from the Carlsbad Library and free cookies and hot apple cider from the Rotary Club of Carlsbad.
