After a 15-month closure due to COVID-19, the Carlsbad Senior Center reopened its doors today to welcome back seniors with a full slate of engaging activities and a chance to share a meal together in person. Local seniors, elected officials, city staff and volunteers celebrated the occasion with a ribbon cutting.

Although the Senior Center and its dining room closed in March 2020, city staff and volunteers quickly retooled a popular lunch program to deliver over 61,000 meals, either through the curbside pick-up or home delivery.

Even though the drive through and delivery service offered a regular chance to connect, community members were excited to get back to in person activities.

In addition to the lunch program, older adults can now enjoy the Senior Center’s wide variety of programs and classes. Activities on tap this week include Zumba, ceramics, Hawaiian dance, writing, art and culinary classes, and more.

Stop by the Senior Center today or check out our program schedule and lunch menu by visiting www.carlsbadca.gov/seniors. Reservations are required a day in advance for lunch.
