The traffic safety workshops are part of the city’s response to declaring a traffic safety state of emergency last August following an over 200% increase in bike and e-bike collisions since 2019.

Since that time, the city has made improvements to over 90 miles of local streets, increased traffic enforcement, expanded its school crossing guard program and reprioritized traffic safety related projects. The city also launched the Safer Streets Together pledge, bringing community members together to commit to safe walking, biking and driving behaviors every day.

About the pledge

· Add your name to this online form to make the commitment.

· Show your commitment to others in the community by putting a Safer Streets Carlsbad window cling on your car window.

· Encourage your neighbors to join in by putting a Safer Streets Together yard sign in front of your home.

Pick up Safer Streets items at all three city library locations, City Hall, Faraday Center and the Senior Center.

School partnerships

Carlsbad is also partnering with local schools to raise awareness of the rules of the road.

Through these partnerships, students of all ages are learning how to stay safe on the road, whether they are walking to school, riding a bike or e-bike, or even learning how to drive.

Teaming up with the San Diego County Bicycle Coalition and Circulate San Diego, the city is offering:

In-person, interactive assemblies focused on pedestrian safety or bike and e-bike safety
Bike rodeos, where kids can practice bike safety skills in a safe and supportive environment
Virtual webinars with tips for helping kids stay safe whether they are biking, walking or learning to drive
Sample emails with safety messages for parents
Banners on school fences reminding everyone to be safe, slow down and share the road
