City of Carlsbad offers Lifeguard Academy

The City of Carlsbad offers Lifeguard Academy courses this spring at Alga Norte Aquatic Center. The week long courses run Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and are for ages 15 and older. The course dates are March 19 – 23, March 26 – 30, April 2 – 6 and June 11 – 15.

At a Glance

Participants must be able to swim 300 yards using front crawl and breaststroke, tread water for two minutes without the use of hands and swim 20 yards combined with a surface dive to retrieve a 10 pound brick.
The course also requires some home study. Successful completion of the course will provide participants with certifications in Lifeguarding, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid.
Also upon successful completion of the course and pre-employment tests, participants may be eligible for hire. Jobs are available at Alga Norte Aquatic Center and Monroe Street Pool.
The course fee is $290 and Carlsbad residents will receive a 10 percent discount.
