Although the beloved Veterans Day Ceremony will again be virtual this year, Mayor Rebecca Jones invites all community members to watch her virtual address honoring all veterans online. It will be posted at www.san-marcos.net on Nov. 11.

Pay tribute to those who have served our country by tuning in to her address, which will emphasize the Department of Veteran’s Affair’s 2021 theme, “Remembering All Who Served.”

This year’s theme is centered on the centennial commemoration of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and recognizes all who served in Afghanistan, in light of the recent withdrawal of American troops.

“Let’s all remember the great heroes among us, and in our memories, by honoring those who have served, and continue to serve,” said Mayor Jones, who encourages community members to watch her online address on Nov. 11.

A short flag exchange ceremony will occur at Helen Bougher Memorial Park at 10 a.m. Nov. 11, featuring San Marcos High School Junior ROTC students. The ceremony will include flag folding, a rifle team performance, a cadet speaker, a moment of silence, a cadet playing taps on the bugle and a flag exchange. Those who choose to attend the flag exchange ceremony in person are asked to follow CDC guidelines to help ensure the health and safety for all present.
