John B. Franklin
I created this video as the first in a planned series of videos designed to communicate to the people of Vista about the city’s ongoing effort to address the epidemic of homelessness in our city and our state.
Most of our neighbors in Vista are still unaware of our extensive outreach effort and much confusion still exists about the core causes of homelessness. The discussion about how we make a real difference for people in need of help is too expansive for one article or one video but it is so important to me that Vistans understand that their Council is taking this issue head-on with great seriousness.
The Council and I support an all-of-the-above approach to solve homelessness. In other words there is no good tactic that has been suggested which we have not made a serious effort to implement. Unfortunately the problem continues to grow. Ultimately as with any public problem, education of citizens is key to a solution. A tremendous amount of financial resources have been made available, but financial resources alone are not enough. An interested and curious citizenry is necessary to bring about specific changes to policy needed to make true change. I hope that every interested citizen will take a moment to watch this video and engage in this important public dialogue.
Already I have received a lot of feedback and great suggestions from citizens and from those who are very educated on this subject and have provided me with excellent suggestions for the city to implement. I invite all citizens of Vista to reach out to me directly at jfranklin@cityofvista.org to share their feedback directly.
