On July 8, 2023, Sheriff’s Homicide investigators were notified 43-year-old Zeke Davis, an individual in Sheriff’s custody, passed away at Tri-City Hospital around 3:30 p.m. We extend our sympathies to the Davis family and those affected by his death. A Sheriff’s Family Liaison Officer will support the family as they deal with the loss of a loved one.
Zeke Davis, a resident of Oceanside, was arrested by the Oceanside Police Department June 28, 2023, for 69PC- Resisting Arrest, 243(b)PC- Battery on a Peace Officer and 166(a)(4)PC- Violation of a Temporary Restraining Order and transported to the Vista Detention Facility for booking.
During the booking process, Mr. Davis was medically screened by Sheriff’s staff who determined that he should be transported to the hospital for follow up. Once there, medical staff evaluated Mr. Davis and admitted him to the hospital for a pre-existing medical condition. Mr. Davis was provided care and remained at the hospital until the time of his passing on July 8, 2023.
The Citizen’s Law Enforcement Review Board (CLERB) was notified of this incident.
As is the protocol for all in-custody deaths, the Sheriff’s Homicide Unit will conduct a thorough investigation. The cause and manner of death will be determined by the Medical Examiner’s Office.
