The Escondido Fire Department recently received the following letter: “We are pleased to inform you that the Escondido Fire Department has been selected by Congressman Darrell Issa to receive a flag that was flown over the U.S. Capitol in recognition of their exceptional and honorable service to the community.”
On June 24, The City of Escondido Fire Department was presented with the flag from Representatives of Congressman Darrel Issa’s office, outside of Police & Fire Headquarters. Escondido City Council Members, City management and the Police Department Command attended the presentation. This was a great honor for the City of Escondido Fire Department.
The weather and fire behavior in Riverside County accelerated the Bonny Fire incident originating near the Cahuilla Indian Reservation and the Aguanga area. On the morning of July 28, CAL FIRE reported that 2069 acres had burned with very little containment.
Therefore, OES Type 3 Strike Team, 6848 Charlie was deployed to the fire to assist. Escondido Fire’s representation for these resources include Chief Matthews and Chief Salazar, deployed as the Strike Team leader/Trainee, and Captain Steve Nugent, Engineer Geoff McClellan, Firefighter/Paramedics Eric Roberts, and Nick Sharp, deployed as the assigned crew for Brush Engine 8334. All arrived safely to the Bonny fire, and we wish them a safe return very soon.
