On February 18, Officers responded to Washington and Rose based on a radio call reference a male chasing another male with a machete. Officers arrived on scene and located a victim bleeding heavily from a four-inch cut across his forehead and a 6-inch cut to his left arm. The victim was on parole and uncooperative with the investigation. The SDSO Helicopter (ASTREA) was on scene almost immediately and located a male subject walking east bound in the flood control channel.
Surveillance footage shows the suspect running behind the victim and discarding the machete. Further footage of the incident revealed that the two subjects were walking away together, apparently companions who had disarmed their attacker. There is no information on the actual suspects, that were out of camera range at the time of the attack.
Regardless of the outcome, patrol and dispatch did an amazing job dealing with a chaotic scene and following through with a great investigation.
