On November 9, at 9:28 p.m., Escondido Police and Fire Dispatch received a 9-1-1 call of a stabbing that occurred in the 1300 block of Magnolia Avenue in the City of Escondido. When officers arrived, Juan Reynoso, a 33-year-old Escondido resident, was located with a stab wound to his chest. Escondido Fire Paramedics transported him to Palomar Medical Center where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Detectives from the Escondido Police Department responded to the scene for further investigation. Based on witness statements and evidence located at the scene, Juan Reynoso was looking for a family member who he believed lived somewhere in the area. He knocked on a random door to see if the family member was inside of the house. The occupant of the residence answered the door and spoke with Reynoso. Reynoso appeared to be under the influence of alcohol and was acting disorderly in the front yard. A fistfight ensued. Luis Ledesma, a 21-year-old Escondido resident, saw his brother in a fight with an unknown person. Ledesma retrieved a knife, went outside, and stabbed Reynoso in the chest. Ledesma was arrested at the scene for the murder of Juan Reynoso.
