Get Out Alive is an autobiographical afrogoth musical written and performed by artist Nikki Lynette who recounts her personal experience with mental health through the lens of a punk/hip-hop concert.
After a highly acclaimed sold-out run in Steppenwolf’s LookOut Series, the show was filmed on the southside of Chicago in August 2020 and finished editing in 2021. Over the last year and a half, the film has been invited to more than a dozen film festivals around the world and won three awards. Most recently, Get Out Alive ran for 19 shows at The Den Theatre in Chicago, garnering 3 Jeff Award nominations, including Best Lead Performer and Best Projections for Lynette.
In October 2022, Get Out Alive was presented to a Broadway audience as part of NAMT’s 34th Festival of New Musicals. It got an overwhelming response and was the only musical to receive a standing ovation at both presentations. This is where the team from CCAE Theatricals saw the show and immediately approached Nikki about workshopping the show at the California Center for the Arts, Escondido.
