Library Hosts Web Talk with Indianapolis Authors

May 22, 2020 @ 11:00 am

Join Oceanside Public Library for an author talk on Indianapolis: The True Story of the Worst Sea Disaster in the U.S. Naval History and the Fifty-Year Fight to Exonerate an Innocent Man on Friday, May 22 at 11 a.m.

Authors Lynn Vincent and Sara Vladic deliver the riveting and heart-wrenching story of the worst sea disaster in United States naval history: the sinking of the USS Indianapolis during World War II—and the fifty-year fight to exonerate Captain Charles McVay III who was wrongly court martialed for the disaster. Based on painstaking research including primary sources and interviews with 108 survivors, Vincent and Vladic reveal the untold stories of the crew left adrift for five days in the Philippine Sea as they battled dehydration, sharks, insanity, and each other. Christian Science Monitor calls Indianapolis “a wonderful book…that features grievous mistakes, extraordinary courage, unimaginable horror, and a cover-up…as complete an account of this tragic tale as we are likely to have.”

Lynn Vincent, a US Navy veteran, is a #1 New York Times bestselling author and coauthor of eleven nonfiction books with more than sixteen million copies in print, including Indianapolis. Sara Vladic, an acclaimed documentary filmmaker and a #1 New York Times bestselling author, is one of the world’s leading experts on the USS Indianapolis, having become obsessed with the story at the age of thirteen. In 2016, she released an award-winning documentary film on the disaster, USS Indianapolis: The Legacy.
