San Marcos, Vista, San Elijo, Carlsbad and Escondido area pet owners now have another option when their pet needs timely veterinary care for injuries or illnesses that are not severe enough to require emergency treatment but cause enough pain or discomfort that they can’t wait to see their primary veterinarian.
Thrive Pet Healthcare is addressing the critical need for veterinary care that complements pet owners’ trusted primary care and alleviates the case overload of emergency hospitals by providing urgent care services at their new clinic at 1903 W. San Marcos Blvd.
The new urgent care clinic will host a grand opening and open house event on Saturday, March 11 from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. to allow pet owners in the area to meet staff, tour the facility and enter for a chance to win prizes. There will also be a St. Patrick’s Day-themed photo booth where pet parents can pose for pictures with their beloved pet.
Modeled after human urgent care, the San Marcos urgent care clinic provides outpatient, same-day services for sick pets that require prompt access to a veterinarian, but do not have critical or life-threatening conditions that require surgery or hospitalization. Clinic hours are Friday, Saturday and Sunday from noon to 10 p.m. Beginning March 13, the clinic will expand availability to Friday-Monday from noon to 10 p.m.
“Pets don’t always get sick or injured at a time when it’s convenient to see your primary care veterinarian and some conditions don’t warrant a visit to an ER,” said Thrive Pet Healthcare San Marcos Practice Manager Breanna Turk. “Our walk-in urgent care clinic in San Marcos bridges the gap between your family veterinarian and an emergency hospital by providing timely outpatient care that is often more affordable compared to an ER visit.”
Some examples of pet behaviors or symptoms that may benefit from urgent care include loss of appetite, vomiting, diarrhea, eye or ear infections, allergic reactions, itching, lumps, limping, minor wounds or injuries, or the ingestion of minimal toxins or a foreign object.
The clinic is staffed by San Diego native and University of California San Diego graduate Dr. Ashley Reynolds. Dr. Reynolds completed her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree as well as earned a doctorate in virology at the Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine in upstate New York. She has taught undergraduates, graduate students and veterinary medical students at both Cornell University and Princeton University and has served as a veterinarian at the National Cancer Institute, a part of the National Institutes of Health. Dr. Reynolds has experience working at a number of companion animal practices in California.
Although urgent care is a walk-in service, pet owners are encouraged to check the availability of the urgent care team by calling the clinic at 760-257-2837.
Thrive Pet Healthcare has opened 18 urgent care facilities across the country in the last two years to accommodate patients’ needs for same-day care in non-life-threatening situations. Urgent care is now available in standalone locations, as an expanded service offering in existing primary care hospitals, and as an add-on facility.
