TGIF Concerts 8/10 – 8/17 Alga Norte Community Park

The City of Carlsbad’s TGIF Concerts in the Parks series runs every Friday through Aug. 17, from 6 to 8 p.m., at community parks throughout the city. Venues open to the public at 4 p.m. Admission is free.

At a Glance

The 2018 season lineup is below. Preshow entertainment is planned for select concerts, as noted below. Preshow entertainment begins at 5 p.m. Additional details will be added to the website as they become available.

Onsite parking is reserved for accessible parking and event staff. Concert attendees are encouraged to take advantage of free shuttles from Poinsettia, Calavera Hills and Alga Norte community parks from 4:30 to 9:30 p.m. Everyone who rides the shuttle will receive a free opportunity drawing ticket for prizes from the Carlsbad Friends of the Arts.

Aug. 10 Orgōne (Funk/Soul/Afro-Disco)

Now and always, Orgōne delivers dirty, organic, California soul with heart; music that grabs you by the collar, pulls you to your feet and shoves you onto the dance floor.

Aug. 17 Poncho Sanchez (Latin)*

For more than three decades as both a leader and a sideman, conguero Poncho Sanchez has stirred up a fiery stew of straight ahead jazz, gritty soul music and infectious melodies and rhythms from a variety of Latin American and South American sources. Preshow Entertainment: Winners from the Carlsbad City Library’s Teen Talent Shows will perform on stage. For more information about the Teen Talent Shows, visit www.carlsbadlibrary.org.

Attendees are welcome to bring refreshments from home or support the local food vendors scheduled to be on-site at each concert:

No admittance to concert venues before 4 p.m.
Loading zones to drop off your food and gear, and for rideshare services will be available and clearly marked.
Artists of all ages also can take part in Family Open Studios at TGIF, a free, hands-on art activity.
Guests can buy opportunity drawing tickets from the Carlsbad Friends of the Arts, with great prize packages and funds going to support future arts and cultural events in Carlsbad.

TGIF Concerts in the Parks are presented by the City of Carlsbad Cultural Arts Office with generous support from Carlsbad Friends of the Arts.

Since 1986, the Cultural Arts Office has worked to make arts and culture an integral and inspiring part of the community’s life, through programs and services such as TGIF Concerts in the Parks, Family Open Studios, Three-Part-Art, the William D. Cannon Art Gallery and City of Carlsbad Sculpture Garden, Carlsbad Community Arts Grants and other activities.
