On December 9, 2019 at 7:49 PM, Escondido Police and Escondido Fire responded to a vehicle collision on El Norte Py. west of Fig St.
The following information is based on witness statements as well evidence at the scene. A 29-year-old male was driving a red 2008 Chevrolet Corvette west on El Norte Py at a high rate of speed. After passing Fig St., the driver lost control of the Corvette and collided with a fire hydrant and tree, causing extensive damage to the Corvette. A male passenger from the Corvette was transported to Palomar Medical Center but later died from his injuries. The driver was also transported to Palomar Medical Center with serious injuries.
Currently, it is unknown if alcohol and/or drugs were a factor in this collision. The cause of this collision is under investigation by Officer Frank Huston of the Escondido Police Department Traffic Division.
