Fire Department Update Oct 5th

On September 26, the Escondido Fire Prevention Team teamed up with the San Diego Regional Fire Foundation to hold the 2nd Annual ‘Home Fire Escape Plan’ contest at two of our local schools. This year’s Fire Prevention Week campaign, “Cooking safety starts with YOU. Pay attention to fire prevention,” works to educate everyone about simple but important actions they can take to keep themselves and those around them safe when cooking. Some of these cooking safety tips include being alert while cooking and making sure you have an escape plan in plan if you do have an emergency. Escape planning and practice is essential in ensuring everyone gets out of a burning house safely.

The students were asked to draw their home layout including a danger in the kitchen, and show their fire escape plan, which includes two ways out of every room, smoke alarms, and the location of a meeting place outside. Students at The Classical Academy TK-8 and Heritage Elementary were awarded their prizes during a special ceremony at each school; their teachers were also awarded $50 to spend on classroom supplies.
