Vista’s predominant historical landmark bank building at 211 Main Street is going through major changes in 2019. This building was recently purchased by Julie Lowen, President and CEO of Children’s Paradise. NC Daily Star, with the help of Ryan Video Productions, interviewed Julie who shared her future dreams and visions about the building.
Just to give you some historical background on the building:
August 5, 1927, Washington D.C. gave permission to open a bank in Vista.
May 4, 1928, construction began on the building on the corner of Indiana and San Diego Boulevard. (Main Street today). The cost of the building was $40,000 and the building space was shared with four other businesses: Churchill & Cassou occupied two spaces, the Post Office, Shancks Supply Company, M.L. Carpenter, tailor and M. Landry, jeweler, shared a space.
February 21, 1928 – The First National Bank of Vista opened Saturday with an all-day and evening reception during which hundreds inspected the new banking rooms, complete with the first electric elevator in North County. Remarks of an appreciative nature were made by W.C. Bissinger, Cashier of the new bank, M.Z. Remsburg, Publisher of the Vista Press, Fred Pyle of the Chamber of Commerce, John A. Whetstone, President of the bank, Mrs. H.C. Bowman, Postmistress, and others… The bank starts with a capital stock of $25,000.
In 1966 the bank name was changed to Liberty National Bank, in 1981 the bank name was changed to Union Bank. The bank moved out and the building was sold in the Mid 80’s. Roncone Dentistry occupied the banks first floor until 2017.
In the following VIDEO interview, Julie shares her vision.
