Vista Community Clinic (VCC) finds itself on the front lines during the COVID-19 pandemic, along with the many other health centers across the country. As personal protective equipment (ppe) resources are stretched thin, the clinic has welcomed both handmade and medical-grade donations from outside groups and organizations to support their clinic staff.
The Scotts Miracle-Gro Company manufacturing plant, based in Temecula, California, has added its name to the list of businesses modifying production to produce face shields for those most critically in need. VCC is excited to announce that they will be the lucky recipients of 340 of these face shields. In a company press release, Jim Hagedorn, Chairman and CEO, of Scotts Miracle-Gro, supported the move to action saying, “During times like this, it’s the responsibility of every citizen, and especially every company, to do the right thing to protect our people and help our country remain strong.”
The clinic will certainly be putting these face shields to good use at their five open facilities in San Diego North County, Orange County, and Lake Elsinore. Clinicians are currently required to wear ppe at all times while working in the clinic, and the constant usage has put a toll on already dwindling resources. As COVID-19 peaks, these shields are a much appreciated addition. Chief Medical Officer and VCC Pediatrician, Dr. Kelly Motadel, is looking forward to the shipment. She knows first-hand just how important these kinds of supplies are, saying “It’s wonderful when companies reach across sectors to work as a team. This is an example of that and it will result in protecting our patients and clinicians…it will save lives.”
