Guajome Schools proudly hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony on September 4, 2025, to celebrate the grand opening of its newly redesigned library, now named The Discovery Center at Guajome Schools. The event, held during Back to School Night, was hosted in partnership with the Vista Chamber of Commerce and attended by community leaders, families, and students.
With the rapid changes in technology and evolving student needs, Guajomeโs library was no longer able to provide the flexible, collaborative environment our students and community deserved. While it had long been a valued resource on campus, the space had fallen behind in meeting the demands of a modern learning experience. Thanks to the generous support of the County of San Diegoโs Neighborhood Reinvestment Program Funds, the Girard Foundation, and the Guajome Park Academy Foundation, the library has now been transformed into a modern, engaging hub designed to inspire curiosity, creativity, and a love of learning.
The Discovery Center is not just a library, it is a flexible, multi-purpose learning space. With movable furniture, mobile technology, and adaptable layouts, it can serve as both a classroom and a community hub. Beyond student learning, the space will host college application workshops, family financial literacy programs, food distribution events, and other community-centered initiatives.
โOur students deserve spaces that reflect the quality of their potential,โ said Kevin Humphrey, Superintendent of Guajome Schools.
โThe Discovery Center is more than a libraryโit is a place where imagination meets opportunity, and where our students and families can gather to learn, grow, and thrive together.โ
Librarian, Lucy Davis! said “It has been such an incredible experience watching our students enter The Discovery Center for the first time. There is true excitement in the air, and all of our stakeholders at Guajome have been amazed by the transformation. I can’t wait to see all of the learning that takes place as a result of the new opportunities this renovation has created”.
The Discovery Center serves more than 1,300 Kโ12 students from Vista and surrounding North County San Diego communities. With 73% of families living at or below the federal poverty line, Guajome Schools is dedicated to ensuring equitable access to high-quality learning environments and resources. This redesigned space represents a vital investment not only in students but also in the wider Guajome community.
Guajome Schools extends its deepest gratitude to the County of San Diego, the Girard Foundation, the Guajome Park Academy Foundation, and the Vista Chamber of Commerce for making this milestone possible.
