On November 16, 2023, at around 5:00 a.m., Sheriff’s dispatch received a radio call from a resident in the 1700 block of York Drive in Vista, stating a male suspect was in their backyard and possibly going to break into the home. While on the phone with the Sheriff’s Department, the resident stated the suspect was now breaking into the home and a gunshot was heard. Deputies responded and located the suspect with a gunshot wound. Deputies provided medical aid, and he was taken to the hospital by paramedics. The suspect died at the hospital. He has not been identified yet.
The resident was the only person home at the time and was not injured. The resident’s name is being withheld at his time.
The circumstances of the shooting are still under investigation.
