On Tuesday Mar 7, 2023 The Vista City Council voted 5-0 and agreed to hire Community Development Director John Conley as the new City Manager. When the vote was taken, the whole room, council included, erupted into a standing ovation.
John received his undergraduate and master’s degrees in city planning from San Diego State University. He spent five years in private consulting, working mostly on environmental planning before joining the City of Vista in 1998. For the past 20 years, John has been a public servant for the City of Vista, where he has served as Environmental Planner, Principal Planner, City Planner, and as a Director since 2009. He currently oversees a staff of about 40 who implements all private development, capital projects, and engineering services for the city.
