The highest tides of the Fall season are when a new moon brings a King Tide to area beaches. ‘Save Oceanside Sand’ hosted a King Tide watch party last Saturday morning, November 6th @ 10am at the end of Wisconsin Street at the Oceanside shore.
A 7.3-foot high tide did not disappoint and peaked at 10:17 in the morning, spraying The Strand with surf and stones.
Many were prepared and captured the event with their cameras. Others were splashed unexpectedly and ended up very wet. A certain older gentleman and enthusiast braved the high surf at the rocks edge while holding on for dear life to acquire amazing water close-ups.
Building better beaches by retaining sand with groins and a robust sand bypass system will help all enjoy our coast. The recent Sand Feasibility Study has proposed a pilot project of 4 groins along The Strand to study all the effects encountered.
SOS circulated a petition which supports our effort to create sustainable Oceanside beaches. Currently, they have over 1,000 signatures from residents and visitors who support their cause. Hope you signed the petition at the King Tide event.
