Oceanside, CA — May 12, 2022 — Luna Grace Photography Studio and Art Gallery is now open in the Ocean Place Cinema complex at 409 Mission Avenue, C125, in Downtown Oceanside, within the Oceanside Cultural District.
Photographer, Christine Alford, specializes in maternity, newborn, and young children photography. Christine provides a unique combination of props and backgrounds, a passion for babies, and a special ability to calm babies to achieve artistic poses.
“We want our photos to be a creative expression of each family’s uniqueness, creating images that reflect their dreams and aspirations for their children, and helping them capture special moments to share in a digital world as well as in their homes,” said Christine.
Christine’s mother, Barbara McDonald, is the Gallery’s Artist in Residence. Barbara has created a new genre of steel wall sculpture. Utilizing a plasma cutting torch like a brush, Barbara creates truly original, one-of-a-kind wall sculptures, a happy marriage between sculpting and painting. Barbara has exhibited in a number of art venues around Southern California, including the Cove Gallery in Laguna Beach, Art-A-Fair in Laguna Beach, and the Carlsbad Art Gallery. Her pieces reside in private collections locally and abroad.
Barbara expresses her elation with her creative process. “I love cutting steel. There is an almost atavistic sense of joy when I see the steel melting under the heat of the torch. It makes me think of iron-age artisans learning how to turn ore into tools. What magic it must have seemed!”
Christine and Barbara are both former trial attorneys and Pepperdine Caruso School of Law alumni. Now retired, mother and daughter are pursuing their respective artistic passions.
Luna Grace Photography Studio and Art Gallery took over the space formerly occupied by the Oceanside Police Community Resource Center and reflects the new dynamic of Downtown Oceanside’s dining, entertainment and cultural scene.
