MainStreet Oceanside Monthly Morning Meeting Frontwave Arena Update

Gumaro Escarcega, MainStreet Oceanside CEO, welcomed attendees to the August Monthly Morning Meeting. He said Frontwave Arena asked to return to the Morning Meeting to address the questions of the July meeting attendees.

FRONTWAVE ARENA

Jascha Wilson, Manager of Premium Sales at Frontwave Arena, returned to the Monthly Morning Meeting with Chasen Eddow, Frontwave Arena’s Director of Sports & Youth Community Relations, to address questions and concerns community members have about traffic, parking, community use, and incorporated art.

Eddow remarked that Frontwave Arena strives to be a community resource and exemplify good stewardship. They focus their service on six categories: youth, education, military, service-oriented, arts and culture, and health and wellness. Eddow and Wilson addressed questions and concerns of the audience:

· Traffic and parking during events. Traffic safety is the number one priority; Frontwave Arena is working with the Oceanside Police Department and the City of Oceanside to ensure the facility provides a safe environment for everyone. There will be a shuttle running during events from the Sprinter station to the arena.

· Non-profit organization use of the facility. Frontwave Arena has a community needs assessment form to complete for renting the facility, requesting donated items for fundraising, and partnering with Frontwave Arena. (Links below for more information and fillable application.)

· Art elements in the facility’s decor. Frontwave Arena is reaching out to everyone possible to ensure the integrity of the building is maintained and that the Oceanside culture is well-represented.

· Frequency of events. The mix of sporting and entertainment/concerts is even; however, there will not be events seven days a week.

· Number of jobs created. The facility is currently running with 30-40 people with the potential of 150-200 more jobs. Security and parking will be subcontracted. The Levy restaurant group will be used for concessions.

· Ticket scams/scalping. The arena uses the AXS ticket platform which utilizes scam protection. The arena will not prohibit the resale of tickets. They have not had a problem with brokers or bulk buying.

DOWNTOWN BRANDING

Escarcega presented the new branding for Downtown Oceanside. MSO is the curator of the brand and will use the collateral for a new website, wayfinding, and banners for Downtown Oceanside. The collateral will also be shared with businesses to use in leveraging and promoting themselves. The branding icon is a D and O representative of the downtown buildings, the pier, and the ocean.

The color palette represents seven subdistricts within the 84 blocks of the MSO district. The assets within subdistricts can be better promoted with the new branding. Over 2,000 community surveys were received and helped to determine the names of the subdistricts.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Sharon Elwood, Volunteer Coordinator at MainStreet Oceanside, shared volunteer opportunities with MSO. Volunteers help MSO produce successful events. Volunteers can engage with the Oceanside community while volunteering for the annual parade and tasting events. The information booths at the weekly Farmers and Sunset Markets are also run by volunteers.

The Downtown Ambassador Program offers a volunteer-run information booth for locals and visitors to learn about things going on in Downtown Oceanside. MSO uses Volunteer Impact to manage the volunteer program. Volunteers can use the software to sign up for an event and to track their volunteer hours. Two upcoming opportunities include Super Girl Surf Pro September 20-22 and the Taste of Oceanside October 4-5.
