The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department wants to remind everyone to be responsible and not drive under the influence this Memorial Day weekend.
Deputies will be out in force looking for impaired drivers this holiday weekend. If you are caught driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, you will go to jail.
Sheriff’s Deputies will also be holding a DUI checkpoint at an undisclosed location in San Marcos on Friday May 28 from 8:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m.
According to the Sheriff’s Crime Lab, the county blood alcohol concentration has significantly increased during the COVID-19 pandemic. It also found 81 percent of alleged felony DUI drivers countywide have alcohol and at least one other drug in their system.
“Whatever your plans are this Memorial Day weekend, don’t put yourself and others in danger by drinking and driving” said Sheriff Bill Gore.

Funding for the impaired driving patrols/checkpoint is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
