Police Chief Sadler announced today that Captain Taurino Valdovinos will be Oceanside’s next Assistant Chief of Police, replacing Assistant Chief Sean Marchand, who retired on December 22, 2023. Congratulations to both!
Taurino Valdovinos has been with the Oceanside Police Department for 20 years, and has worked in a variety of specialized assignments, including the Gang Suppression Unit, the Special Enforcement Section, and the Neighborhood Policing Team.
As a sergeant, Captain Valdovinos supervised in the Patrol Division, and later became the Sergeant in charge of the Neighbor Policing Team. As a lieutenant, Captain Valdovinos managed the General Investigations Section, as well as the Community Policing and Support Operations Section. In his current assignment, Captain Valdovinos oversees the Support Operations Division.
Valdovinos’ education includes a Bachelor’s Degree from Saint Mary’s College and Master’s Degree from the University of Cincinnati. He is also a graduate of the FBI National Academy. Captain Valdovinos is very involved in the community and was primarily responsible for starting the department’s Oceanside Youth Partnership, a mentorship program.
