On Friday, August 2nd, Traffic Services with the help of several members from Patrol, Records, Dispatch, Community Service Officers, Explorers, Professional Staff, and our Volunteers held a DUI Checkpoint in the 4600 block of North River Road from 1900 hours to 0000 hours. As a result, 1659 vehicles passed through the checkpoint with 521 of those vehicles being screened by an officer. 29 of those vehicles were sent to secondary. 11 citations were issued and one DUI arrest was made.
The primary purpose of DUI checkpoints are to promote public safety by taking suspected impaired drivers off of roads.

Oceanside Police Department Is Holding A DUI Checkpoint August 2nd, 2024
Oceanside, Calif. – The Oceanside Police Department will hold a DUI Checkpoint August 2nd, from 6 p.m. to midnight at an undisclosed location within Oceanside city limits.
DUI checkpoint locations are determined based on data showing incidents of impaired driving-related crashes. The primary purpose of a DUI checkpoints is to promote public safety by taking suspected impaired drivers off the road.
“Impaired drivers put others on the road at significant risk,” Sgt. Clint Bussey said. “Any prevention measures that reduce the number of impaired drivers on our roads significantly improves traffic safety.”
Oceanside Police Department reminds the public that impaired driving is not just from alcohol. Some prescription medications and over-the-counter drugs may interfere with driving. While medicinal and recreational marijuana are legal, driving under the influence of marijuana is illegal.
Drivers charged with a first-time DUI face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, as well as a suspended license.
