Each year, SANDAG (San Diego Association of Governments) compiles and analyzes regional crime data using FBI Index crime information provided by local law enforcement agencies, as well as crime data obtained from the Automated Regional Justice Information System (ARJIS). The FBI Index includes four violent offenses (willful homicide, forcible rape, robbery, and aggravated assault) and three types of property crime (burglary, larceny theft, and motor vehicle theft).

The most recent Crime in the San Diego Region annual report was published in May, 2019. Other crime information is also compiled, analyzed, and published throughout the year.

This SANDAG Criminal Justice Bulletin describes annual crime statistics for the San Diego region from 1980 through 2018. Countywide, violent crime has increased by 1 percent from 2017 to 2018, while property crime decreased by 1 percent over the same period. The property crime rate is the lowest in the 39 year period covered by the report.
