Pediatrics at Vista Community Clinic (VCC) is a cornerstone of the health center. Providing proper care for child development is a determining factor for adult health and VCC is working to address this. The health center strives to provide a wide range of services for all ages and conditions, while putting an emphasis on the vital importance of early care.

Chronic diseases that were once thought to only be a part of adulthood are now being found in children, and with health inequities on the rise, it’s increasingly important that children are receiving adequate care. Sujana Gunta, MD, MS, oversees pediatrics at VCC as the Director of Pediatric Services, and understands the need to respond effectively to the health needs of the community’s children. She began her career 13 years ago and puts the same passion into her work today as she did the day she started –

“putting a smile on a child and consequentially on the entire family is a feeling like no other. It’s a privilege that parents trust us pediatric clinicians to help nurse their children back to health from illness and seek guidance from us in every aspect of their health and development.”

As a champion of health, Dr. Gunta is in it for the right reasons. She recognizes the role pediatricians play in laying the foundation for a life full of healthy choices and touts the abilities of VCC as a unique organization that can address multiple issues, “besides treating an illness, we are experts in assessing the growth and development of your child, right from birth and all the way into adolescence. Besides our expert pediatric clinicians, we additionally offer lactation services to breastfeeding mothers, dental services to children of all ages, and optometry and behavioral health services. Prevention is the goal in pediatrics.” Dr. Gunta ensures that the system of care is constantly evolving in order to get the right care to patients at the right time, creating a service that addresses the issues applicable to healthy growth and development.

As the clinic works together and across specialties, their goal is to create a population that is not only healthier, but more educated in how to best take care of themselves; “the challenges are unique in every age group and our clinicians and staff are here to guide you through.” Dr. Gunta and her pediatric staff at VCC are also putting their efforts into creating an environment that normalizes routine care from the beginning, making that relationship between patient, clinician, and family one that lasts. As more clinicians and services are added, the local health care organization hopes to continue to grow its pediatric base, creating even healthier spaces for us all to benefit from.
