Police Investigate Fatal Electric Skateboard Collision

CARLSBAD, Calif. — On October 4 at 7:44 a.m., the City of Carlsbad Fire Department responded to Chestnut Avenue and Pio Pico Drive for a report of a male that had fallen off an electric skateboard and needed medical attention.

The Fire Department arrived, assessed the male, found him to be seriously injured and transported him to a local hospital. He was later pronounced deceased at the hospital.

The Fire Department alerted the Police Department to what appeared to be a roadway collision and officers began an investigation.

The preliminary investigation by the Police Department suggests that a 20-year-old male from Lakewood, was travelling on an electric skateboard and fell, causing serious, life-threatening injuries. Investigators do not believe any other motorists were involved but believe there may be unidentified witnesses that stopped to assist.

The investigation into the cause of the collision is ongoing. Investigators are requesting anyone that witnessed the collision to call Police Department Motor Officer John Maud at 760-271-5766.
