Born in the United States, but raised in India, Carlsbad artist Ambika Thiagarajan is now a full-time artist and art teacher in North County San Diego. She is also one of 10 featured artists in this summer’s Pop-Up Art: A New Experience temporary art program hosted by the Carlsbad Village Association and supported by the City of Carlsbad’s Cultural Arts Office.

While the Village has long been home to a variety of art events such as Art in the Village, the Makers Market, and even seasonal events such as the Carlsbad Village Art Walk, this pop-up event will focus on connecting local established artists with downtown businesses. This temporary art program was designed to create interaction between the business and creative arts sectors and to encourage local businesses to incorporate unique temporary artistic creations to enliven the Village.

Starting Saturday, August 14th and running through Monday, September 6th, 10 local artists will have a selection of artwork on display in retail, service, and hospitality businesses in downtown Carlsbad. Twenty businesses will serve as pop-up art galleries for this temporary art program.

To celebrate the beauty and innocence of summer and taking into consideration the Labor Day holiday weekend, this temporary art program is titled “Spirit of America” and will include paintings, mixed media, photography and even chalk art.

Mark your calendar and stay tuned for more details. The Carlsbad Village Association “Pop Up Art” page on their website www.carlsbad-village.com will soon have artist profiles, business locations, and more to help you enjoy Pop-Up Art: A New Experience in downtown Carlsbad.
