The Vista City Council will hold a virtual public hearing to consider an update to the City’s Climate Action Plan (CAP) on June 1, 2021 at 5:30 pm. The CAP Update includes a revised greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory and future projections, updated greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction targets (to the year 2030), and a range of measures proposed to meet the City’s GHG targets. The CAP Update is available for review here.

This Climate Action Plan (CAP) provides a comprehensive roadmap to address the challenges of climate change in the city of Vista (city). Over the past decade, the city has taken several steps to begin addressing climate change and achieve reductions in GHG emissions, both in the city’s operations as well as the broader community. The city adopted its previous City of Vista Climate Action Plan in 2012 (2012 CAP), setting forth the city’s initial strategies and goals aimed at reducing citywide GHG emissions. The city simultaneously prepared an energy management plan, or Energy Roadmap, with SANDAG, providing the city with a framework to save energy in government operations and in the community. This CAP serves as an update to these documents, providing the city with an updated GHG inventory and new and updated measures aimed at reducing GHG emissions citywide. The city has already begun experiencing climate change by reducing reductions to citywide GHG emissions and is on track to meet and exceed its 2020 target. Additional efforts are required to meet future reduction targets. Through partnerships with other local and regional agencies, it is the goal of the city and this CAP to formulate reduction strategies that meet both the city’s and broader community’s needs
