On Tuesday, Jan. 15 at 6 pm, the San Marcos City Council unanimously decided to appoint Jay Petrek to fill a vacant seat after interviewing 24 city residents for the position. Petrek was officially sworn in the same evening.San Marcos City Council appoints Jay Petrek to fill vacant seat
The vacancy was created after Council Member Rebecca Jones was elected Mayor during the November 2018 election.
The term of the vacant, at-large council seat is from the date of appointment to December 2020.
Council Member Petrek, who also serves as the Assistant City Manager for the City of Escondido, has been a resident of San Marcos for 25 years and has served on the San Marcos Unified School Board, the San Marcos Ridgeline Taskforce, and is a former Parent Club President for San Marcos High School.
After his appointment, Petrek shared his excitement about joining the new council and is eager to get to work.
