The City of San Marcos City Council recently named and dedicated a new trail segment after former San Marcos Mayor Lee B. Thibadeau. The .3-mile segment, located along the south side of Barham Drive between Twin Oaks Valley Road and Campus Way, is now open to the public.
“Former Mayor Thibadeau exemplifies the spirit of service to our community in San Marcos,” said Mayor Rebecca Jones. “His work and accomplishments contributed to San Marcos’ development, including expanding Highway 78, helping to bring California State University San Marcos to the city and leading the development of the Sherriff’s substation.”
Thibadeau moved to the City of San Marcos in 1974 and continued to serve the community for the next 45 years until he passed away in October of 2019. He served on the San Marcos City Council for two terms, and served as mayor from 1986 to 1995. During his tenure as mayor, the San Marcos population more than quadrupled. His keen insight and smart fiscal management created the strong education and economic pillars which still support San Marcos today.
